Article: The Beauty of the Bias

The Beauty of the Bias

The Beauty of the Bias

The 90s Silk Slip dress has been our staple piece since we began in 2015. It is the dress that has made us who we are today and that continues to be re-invented in each collection through new colours and prints.
With each style release we aim to produce a limited number of colourways and prints in order to reduce overproduction and limit our footprint on the earth, that being said it also allows exclusivity of our silk slip dresses.
There are many reasons we favour the silk slip dress, it has the power to embrace and flatter a wide variety of figures as it is cut on the bias. It falls gracefully on the body, stating ease-of-wear and simplicity.
When finding your ideal size in the slip dress we like to think that many factors can be taken into consideration. Do you want your slip to sit close to the body and be fitted? Would you prefer your slip to be longer with more drape through the body? Will the size you choose carry you through the years and lend itself to layering?

We personally know many women, even the ones here on our Silk team all with varying body shapes that have a variety of sizes in the slip dresses all of which can be styled in their own unique way. With that being said we wanted to showcase this versatility on one of our team members, our Wholesale Coordinator, Zuzanna.

Zuzanna is 162cm in height ( 5'4") and her measurements are bust-36cm, waist-28cm, hips-39cm, in average sizes she is a size 8-10 or a small but in our 90s Silk Slip Dress she prefers to wear a size medium for a slightly relaxed fit on her.
Here she wears all sizes in our 90s Silk Slip Dress Plum Floral to showcase its versatility and to challenge the potential stigma surrounding sizing.

Wearing a size extra small Silk Slip Dress
" I tend to shy away from a fitted look as I don't like to feel constricted and felt that it was too tight around my bust."

Wearing a size small Silk Slip Dress
"The size small fits wonderfully and is a size I sometimes consider when I want a more figure forming look."

Wearing a size medium Silk Slip Dress
"I tend to gravitate towards a size medium as I don't like my clothes to cling  and though I am on the shorter side, I really enjoy having more length in my dresses."

Wearing a size large Silk Slip Dress
"The size large slip surprised me, in that I feel with this size I have more room for layering underneath, especially in the cooler months. The fact that the dress is cut on the bias I felt that it was still very flattering on my figure."

Wearing a size extra large Silk Slip Dress
" Like the large, I felt surprised by the fit of the extra-large as it too provided me with more length and extra fabric throughout that can lend so beautiful to layering and growth through the natural phases of life. "
